Review : Mentholatum Deep Moist Lipbalm in unique oval shape

I was sent Mentholatum Deep Moist Lipbalm a while back and I took out recently to use it. Been using it for around 2 months. It comes with 2 variants namely Mentol & Fragrance Free. The one I am reviewing would Menthol variant which suppose to have soothing properties that are able to soothe discomfort of dry chapped lips.

Mentholatum Deep Moist Lipbalm promises to:-

-Hydrate and lock in moisture with Hyaluronic Acid which has high water retention. Able to lock-in the skin moisture and provides long lasting moisture so that lips stay plump and moisturized

-Moisturize and Protect with Jojoba Oil & Avocado Oil, keeping the lips soft & supple. Jojoba Oil contains anti-oxidant which protects our lips from the damaging effects of free radicals.

-Prevent dry, cracked lips with Shea butter which is rich in vitamins A,E and F. Abe to penetrate deep into skin to help restore elasticity of the skin while at the same time protects the lips from excessive dryness and sun damage.

-Give anti-oxidant in protecting the skin cells from ultra violet rays, pollution and free radicals.

Ingredients list

Mentholatum Deep Moist Lipbalm comes in oval tube shape.

I read that the oval shape is unique because it fits the corner of the mouth well and makes it easy to apply with one swipe. And I do think the design does help when I was applying this lipbalm.

Review : Texture feel smooth & not oily when I applied it on my lips. My lips feel a bit cooling for a while after application due to the menthol ingredient, the menthol scent is pretty strong here. My lips only feel moist for the first 1 or 2 hour and later I felt my lips is dry. Even after 2 months of using it I did not see it was helping to repair my cracked lip. Guess this is not working on me eventhough I read that it is the No 1 lipbalm brand in Japan.

Mentholatum Deep Moist Lipbalm is available exclusively at Guardian Store nationwide at RM14.90

Review : Sunplay Super Block SPF130 PA+++ with Solarex-3 technology formulation

At this moment, I know Sunplay Super Block SPF130 PA+++ has the highest SPF sun protection I know in the market. And sometimes people asked me what does SPF & PA in sunblok means?

SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor and sunscreens are rated by the Sun Protection Factor (SPF) system which is mainly a measure of UVB protection. The numeric value (130) simply indicates how much longer that sunscreen can enable you to stay in the sun before you start experiencing sunburn. In this case, the SPF 130 sunscreen allow you to stay out in the sun 130 times longer. And if usually you take 20 mins to experience sunburn, the sunscreen will delay the onset of a sunburn to 2600 minutes (43 hours). So you should reapply every 2600 minutes in this case, but then again who will actually be under the sun for 43 hours?

PA ( Protection Grade of UVA) refers to the amount of protection the sunscreen offers against UVA rays. More plus symbols mean more protection from UVA and UVB rays.

We have heard so much about the incease of global warming , and now the environmental experts have indicated that temperature is likely to increase 1.1 celcius to 6.4 celcius between 1990 and 2100. It is also predicted with the increase of temperaure by 2 celcius as a consequence of climate change, the carcinogenic effect of UV solar may increase by 10% and this will also increase the risk of skin cancer. So I guess the higher the SPF the better it is right?

Late last year, Sunplay Super Block SPF130 PA+++ introduced a new formula replacing the old one, which comes with the new Solarex-3 technology for more powerful protection against the sun. The 3-in-1 Defense system includes:-

1) Superior Photo Stability
Contains unique combination of active ingredients that provides superior and stable broad spectrum protection against UVA and UVB. Superior photo stability provides longer hours of protection without comprimising the effectiveness of the sunscreen.

2) Anti-PhotoAging
Sunrays is the major caused of skin aging. Ultraviolet (UV) radiation penetrates far beyond the top layer of skin (epidermis). Sunplay Solarex-3 formula contains highly active anti-aging ingredients such as Antileukine 6 which contains golden algae and marine extracts. It is rich in phosphatidylcholine, Vitamin A & E and Lipoic Acid which helps to prevent skin aging process. It also contains RonaCare Ectoin, an innovative substance for skin protection from UV radiation.

3) Intense Hydration
Contains Hyaluronic Acid has water binding effect that give the skin a natural suppleness and it is also used to treat rough skin surfaces and skin dehyradation. It has very high moisture retention ability, a long lasting softening effect and enchances the skin's elasticity.

So let's see how this Sunplay Super Block SPF130 PA+++ works on me:-

Remember to shake well before using it.

Comes in white liquid and has the water like texture. It feels ultra-light on my skin because it absorba into my skin easily without feeling greasiness.

It is said to be safe to be used on the face and the body. It is ideal for long hours of outdoor or water activites as it is also super water proof.

Review : With my recent trip to Bali and Cambodia, I had put this Sunplay Super Block SPF130 PA+++ to test. In Cambodia, I applied it all over my hands, arms and legs in the morning before I went out for my activities. And I am glad to say that despite going under the sun for more than 10 hours, I did not have any sunburn at all! I am glad that my skin does not feel sticky even when I sweat, so I am keeping this as my body sunblock for swimming and all my outdoor activities!

Sunplay SPF PA+++ (35g) with the new formulation is available at all leading pharmacies and major supermarket outlets at RM35.90/each.

Review : Mentholatum Waterlip Balm

Mentholatum lip balm is one of the brand which I have used during my secondary school day as it is one of the most affordable one. I always remember having the cooling effect from their lip balm and I guess that is their trademark. Well now Mentholatum has introduced the enhanced Waterlip range with improved intense hydration formula by using Super Hyaluronic Acid! It is a substance that gives long lasting moisture to the lips while the presence of Collagen helps improve texture and elasticity of our lips.

This new improved Mentholatum Waterlip balm now comes with 2 flavour, where you can choose to have one the with Peppermint flavour or the one which is Fragrance Free. It also comes with SPF15PA+ protection to shield our lips from harmful UV rays and best of all it is free from preservative and colorant so it is suitable even for very sensitive lips.

The ingredients list

If you have notice they used sea salt as one of their ingredients too, as Deep Sea Minerals extracts can helps to repair, nourish and protect the delicate layer of skin of our lips

As the flavour suggested, this Peppermint Waterlip balm comes with a slight cooling effect while the one in pink Waterlip balm which is fragrance free do not have such effect.

Swatch of Waterlip Balm on my hands

Review : I think that this would be a very affordable lip balm to use for day time as it comes with SPF15PA+. It does gives some hydration to my lips but I need to re-apply every 1-2 hours compare my existing lip balm as the texture is lighter. I found that since texture is not very greasy, it has the advantages of allowing me to actually immediately apply my lipstick on it after applying the Waterlip balm.

The Mentholatum Waterlip Balm range is available at all leading pharmacies and major supermarket outlets at RM12.90 each, from 1st June onwards.
